The difference is one of emphasis; the academic training towards becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor focuses almost exclusively on individual mental health, whereas the academic training towards becoming a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker focuses on individual mental health and also on the ways in which larger social systems impact the individual. All clinicians at NSCG engage in collaborative training together, ensuring that all clinicians are well equipped with the same foundational skills to best serve clients.

You get two clinicians for the price of one! While the intern will be the only clinician in the room with you, all interns meet at least weekly with their supervisor – a seasoned, senior clinician – to collaboratively develop the most fitting evidenced-based treatment plan for each client. All interns are in the final months of completing their master’s degree, which affords them the advantage of the most current academic knowledge.

Almost. Therapists are legally and ethically required to protect your privacy. There are a few rare exceptions – necessary for safety – including:
- Apparent risk of harm to yourself or others
- Suspected abuse of a child, elderly, or otherwise vulnerable adult
- Court orders or legal requirements

Your therapist will explain these exceptions and answer any questions!

It's normal to desire a strong match with your therapist. If you don't feel comfortable or understood, you can discuss it openly with your therapist so they can help adjust the approach or refer you to someone who might be a better fit. Your comfort and trust are important, and finding the right therapist is part of the process.

We understand that life happens. Out of respect for the time of all parties - you, the clinician, and other clients -we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment to avoid a late cancellation fee. To cancel or reschedule, please contact your clinician directly.

While our therapists are trained in many different specific approaches, the cornerstone of therapy is helping you get to know yourself on a deeper level. Therapy supports you in understanding your thoughts, feelings, and patterns, and in establishing healthy ways of navigating the world, in accordance with your values and goals.

Yes! All NSCG clinicians are trained in a variety of methods, including but not limited to: Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Rogerian Client-Centered Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
